You can manually scan and eliminate duplicate blocks on an existing FlexVol volume with the sis start command.
If a deduplication operation is already active on the volume when you run the sis start command (for example, if a scheduled deduplication operation has started), the command fails.
You can run the sis start command when you want to start the deduplication operation manually, such as when the system is idle, or when you want to test the impact of deduplication on a particular operation.
|If you want to...||Then enter the command...|
|Start the deduplication operation manually||sis start path_name|
|Start the deduplication operation manually and scan the existing data||sis start -s path_name|
The following command starts the deduplication operation manually on the volume VolA:sis start /vol/VolA
The following command starts the deduplication operation manually and scans the existing data on the volume VolA:sis start -s /vol/VolA
