Using security tracing to verify or troubleshoot file and directory access
You can add permission tracing filters to instruct Data ONTAP to log information about why the CIFS server on a Vserver with FlexVol volumes allows or denies a client or user's request to perform an operation. This can be useful when you want to verify that your file access security scheme is appropriate or when you want to troubleshoot file access issues.
Configuring the metadata cache for CIFS shares
Metadata caching enables file attribute caching on a CIFS client to provide faster access to file and folder attributes. You can enable or disable attribute caching on a per-share basis. You can also configure the time-to-live for cached entries if metadata caching is enabled.
Managing file locks
You can display information about a Vserver's current locks as a first step to determining why a client cannot access a volume or file. You can use this information if you need to break file locks.
Monitoring CIFS activity
You can monitor CIFS activity by displaying information about SMB sessions and open files. You can also display information about SMB and CIFS statistics.
