Configuring dedicated interfaces with setup

You can assign a dedicated IP address to a network interface, so that the interface does not have a partner IP address. Although most interfaces are configured to take over a partner IP address during failover events, a dedicated interface enables isolation of the interface to a single IP address, even in takeover. This option can be used, for example, if network throughput performance of the interface is critical.

This procedure is performed during setup of the storage system.

Note: If you configure a dedicated interface on the local node and want to maintain availability of the IP address during failover events, you must configure an interface on the partner node to take over the IP address of the dedicated interface.
  1. Enter the IP address for the interface you are configuring:
Please enter the IP address for Network Interface e0 []::nnn.nn.nn.nnn

nnn.nn.nn.nnn is the local address for the node you are configuring.

  2. Enter the netmask for the interface you are configuring, or press Enter if the default value is correct:
Please enter the netmask for Network Interface e1 [255.255.0.0]:
  3. Specify that this interface does not take over a partner IP address:
Should interface e1 take over a partner IP address during failover? [n]: n
