Ensuring successful authentication with Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers

If your CIFS domain contains Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers, you need to take certain steps to ensure successful authentication.

About this task

Data ONTAP requires either a writable domain controller or a read-only domain controller that is configured to replicate passwords for the storage system.

Step

  1. Perform one of the following actions:
    If you want to... Then...
    Ensure that the storage system uses a writable domain controller Use the cifs prefdc add command to add the writable domain controller to the list of preferred domain controllers on the storage system.
    Ensure successful authentication with read-only domain controllers Configure the writable domain controller to allow the read-only domain controller to replicate passwords for the storage system.
