storage aggregate 64bit-upgrade start

Start 64-bit upgrade on an aggregate

Availability: This command is available to cluster administrators at the advanced privilege level.

Description

The storage aggregate 64bit-upgrade start command starts the upgrade of an aggregate to 64-bit without requiring the addition of disks.

Parameters

-aggregate <aggregate name> - Aggregate

This parameter specifies the storage aggregate to be upgraded to 64-bit.

[-mode <64-bit upgrade mode>] - Upgrade Mode

This optional parameter specifies the mode for upgrading the aggregate to 64-bit. The default mode is normal.

Specifying check displays a summary of the space impact which would result from upgrading the aggregate to 64-bit. This summary includes the space usage of each contained volume after the volume is upgraded to 64-bit and the amount of space that must be added to the volume to successfully complete the 64-bit upgrade. This option does not result in an upgrade to 64-bit or addition of disks.

Specifying normal upgrades the aggregate to 64-bit. This option does not allow Data ONTAP to automatically grow volumes if they run out of space during the 64-bit upgrade.

Specifying grow-reserved upgrades the aggregate to 64-bit. This option allows Data ONTAP to automatically grow volumes if they run out of space during the 64-bit upgrade, but only to accommodate the space-reserved files within these volumes.

Specifying grow-all upgrades the aggregate to 64-bit. This option allows Data ONTAP to automatically grow volumes as needed if they run out of space during the 64-bit upgrade. The volumes are grown to accommodate all the files within these volumes.

Examples

The following example displays an estimate of the space impact without starting the upgrade. In this example, volume vol2 is too full to complete the upgrade:

cluster1::*> storage aggregate 64bit-upgrade start -aggregate aggr1 -mode check
Checking for additional space required to upgrade all writable 32-bit volumes
in aggregate aggr1 (Ctrl-C to interrupt)......

Upgrading a volume to 64-bit consumes additional free space in the volume. The
following table shows the space usage after each volume is upgraded to 64-bit:

Vserver Volume Total Used Available Capacity
--------- ------------ ---------- ---------- ---------- --------
vs1 vol1 20GB 11.18GB 8.82GB 55%
vs1 vol2 20GB 20GB 0.00B 100%
vs1 vol3 20GB 1.12GB 18.88GB 5%

To initiate the upgrade of aggregate aggr1 to 64-bit, run this command with the
"normal", "grow-reserved", or "grow-all" option.

Before initiating 64-bit upgrade with the "normal" option, increase volume
sizes by the following amounts to enable successful upgrade of the aggregate:

Vserver Volume Additional Space Required for Upgrade
--------- ------------ -------------------------------------
vs1 vol2 100KB

If you use the "grow-reserved" or "grow-all" option, volume sizes will be
increased automatically as needed during the upgrade.

The following example starts the 64-bit upgrade of an aggregate, without automatically resizing any volumes:

cluster1::*> storage aggregate 64bit-upgrade start -aggregate aggr1
Started 64-bit upgrade on aggregate aggr1 and all contained writable volumes.
